Built for the Air Force Research Labs (AFRL) as part of the Automated Detection of Steganographic Content project; Stegi@Work is a grid computing system which addresses the computationally demanding problem of identifying steganographic content hidden within images. Stegi@Work is a .CRUNCH Grid Network System. (Back to Software Products)

Description:
Stegi@Work is Stegi@Work was developed to provide an effective toolset and supporting architecture for detecting Steganographic content within media files, alerting the user, and either mitigating (destroying) the contents or quarantining the files as appropriate.
The Stegi@Work algorithms were integrated to run under the .CRUNCH grid processing network, and the system has served as a prototype for development of the follow-on Distributed Information and Signal Processing (DISP) system. The CEI designed .CRUNCH network is a Java based, application neutral, distributed computing environment which utilizes computational and data resources to access largely unused processing power available within a network. It is implemented using open source tools which include Web Services in a Service Oriented Architecture. It allows users (subscribers) to submit units of work (jobs) to one or more available processing nodes or resources for task completion and is capable fusing the end results.
Steganography encompasses methods of transmitting hidden messages through innocuous cover carriers in such a manner that the very existence of the embedded messages is undetectable. Posting or emailing images and music files are prime examples of potential carriers, and the rapid proliferation of tools designed for embedding steganographic content within these carriers has made detecting and blocking covert communications increasingly important. Furthermore, as daily internet and email activities increase, achieving the degree of processing power required to efficiently perform steganographic detection becomes highly problematic. To answer this problem Stegi@Work leverages the distributed processing capabilities of the .CRUNCH grid network. .CRUNCH has a built-in atomizer that can pull pictures from different types of files (.PPT, .ZIP, etc.).
